Councillor Harry Barrett has urged members of the public to check the register of electors in order to ensure that they are able to vote in the upcoming referenda on the Court of Appeal and the abolition of Seanad Eireann.
Cllr Barrett said: “Polling Day for the Abolition of Seanad Eireann and the Court of Appeal Referenda is Friday October 4. These are very important constitutional referenda, the outcome of which will have a significant impact on our democratic institutions.”
The Castlebar councillor said: “The deadline for inclusion on the general supplementary electoral register is Tuesday September 17 while the deadline for the postal and special electoral register is Monday September 9. Voters can check their details at www.checktheregister.ie as well as in all Mayo local authority offices, post offices, Garda stations, and public libraries.”
