Mayo native Kevin McGeever, with an address at Ballywinna, Craughwell, Co Galway, appeared before Strokestown District Court in Co Roscommon on Wednesday in relation to charges of wasting Garda time.
The 68-year-old was arrested on Tuesday evening in Dublin. He was brought to Gort Garda Station and charged that night and charged under sections 12 (a ) and 12 (b ) of the Criminal Justice Act 1976, relating to wasting Garda time on dates between January 29 and February 28 this year.
Bail was set for Mr McGeever at his own bond of €2,500 and an independent surety of €10,000.
Defence for McGeever asked for the independent surety to be lowered, however Judge Geoffrey Browne did not alter the bail arrangements.
McGeever was asked to hand in all his travel documents, provide a current address, and sign on three times a week at a Garda station near his home address.
Mr McGeever was remanded in custody to appear before Harristown District Court today (Friday ).
