A woman who when practising her driving crashed into a bench, while her child was in the car with her, was before Castlebar District Court this week for careless driving.
On October 5 2012 at 4.20pm, Linda McDonagh, 91 Chestnut Grove, Castlebar was driving in Cashel Park. As a car entered the estate she swerved on to the grass and crashed into a bench. Compensation for the bench has been paid by McDonagh.
The court heard that he defendant is now on her second provisional licence and does not own a car anymore. She has no previous convictions.
Judge Mary Devins said to her solicitor Gary Mulchrone that if his client is willing to sit her driving test and obtain a full licence that she will avoid a disqualification.
McDonagh was convicted and fined €200 and the defendant was willing to give an undertaking to sit her driving test and the case was adjourned to July 16 2014 for proof of her certificate of competence.
