Man snapped off Mercedes badge

A man who snapped off a Mercedes Benz badge from a car was before court for the criminal damage charge and also for being in possession of a knife.

Gardaí were informed on June 13 2012, that a man who was identified as Slawomir Andrezejczak, 81 The Curragh, Castlebar took the badge from the car. Gardaí located him in a nearby chip shop where he was found with the badge. He was searched and found to be in possession of a knife.

Damage caused to the car was €61.72.

The defendant who has 17 previous convictions is from Poland and has been in Ireland for eight years. He had been working in a warehouse but is now unemployed.

Judge Mary Devins remanded the man on continuing bail to July 26 for full compensation to be made available to the owner of the car. The judge directed forfeiture of the knife.
