Crèche owner contesting summonses

The owner of a crèche is contesting 21 charges being brought against her by the HSE under the 2006 Pre-School Services Regulations.

Marie McGrath, owner of Sunny Days Crèche, Manulla, was before Castlebar District Court on Wednesday. Solicitor for McGrath, John Geary, said that he has take detailed instructions and will “be defending matters in full”. Mr Geary said that there will be at least six witnesses called on behalf of his client and asked for a September hearing to allow all the witnesses to be available for court.

James Ward, solicitor for the HSE, said that “it is not as if the prosecutions are coming out of the blue” and added that “we are anxious that the case is dealt with as soon possible as there are children involved.”

Judge Mary Devins adjourned the case for mention to July 26
