Families and individuals looking for planning permission in the Neale and Cross areas of south Mayo received good news this week with the announcement of a €500,000 allocation towards the development of waste water plants for the two villages.
In welcoming the allocation local Fine Gael councillor Michael Burke said people who had bought sites but were previously refused planning permission would be in a position now to re-apply to Mayo County Council.
Cllr Burke said attempts to secure planning permission in these areas was held up for three to four years because there was no public water system in place. “This means that people can go back and make an application and once their application is submitted they should be granted planning permission by Mayo County Council subject to these works being complete,” he told the Mayo Advertiser. “It will be much easier to get planning applications through,” he added.
Mayo Fine Gael TD John O'Mahony also welcomed the announcement from Minister for the Environment, Phil Hogan.
Deputy O'Mahony said the funding was vital for the completion of phase two of the project. “This is excellent news for the people living in the area and I was delighted to be of assistance in securing this funding. It's a vital piece of infrastructure and it will contribute greatly to the further development of the area in the future,” he said.
