Achill based Fianna Fáil councillor Michéal McNamara has welcomed this week the news that permission for €450,000 worth of works on improving the road and the Greenway at Tonragee in Achill has finally been given the go ahead.
The project had to be given approval by An Bord Pleanála, because the works are located near a Special Area of Conservation and an ecological and environmental investigation needed to be carried out.
Cllr McNamara said this week: “I am pleased that this work has finally got the go ahead, it is essential for road safety that work here commences in the near future. Locals living along this section of road will have to be consulted and I would like to see this consultation occur soon. When this work is finally completed it will greatly add to the already very successful Greenway project and make its use much safer.”
