CFÁA will play host to the beginning of a series of celebrations to mark the 10th anniversary of the Achill Cleveland twinning, on Friday evening, August 2 at 6pm. The President of the Mayo Society of Greater Cleveland Gerry Quinn and Tom Scanlon, Partner in Collins & Scanlon law firm and a major supporter of the project are confirmed to be in attendance along with family members of the original founders Steve Molloy and Con Mangan.
Terence Dever, CEO of CFÁA has outlined that “preparations are well underway for this event which will, we hope draw a big crowd from both sides of the Atlantic. Scoil Acla will provide the entertainment and it is expected to be a celebratory evening marking many successes over the last decade. It will also be poignant as it will mark some key people who are no longer with us and crucially will have an eye to the future and the potential which still exists.”
A specially commissioned time piece will be unveiled by Councillor John O’Malley, Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council in Áras Forbairt Acla. This will be the first of a series of events, finishing up with a ceremony in the Westside Irish American Club in Ohio in early October. An open invitation has been extended to all in the parish of Achill and beyond who have an interest in this project or who have had involvement in the many events and projects over the last decade.
