Claremorris gears up for Main Street Gathering

People from all over Ireland and abroad are expected to return to their home town of Claremorris on Saturday, August 3 to take part in a gathering for all who hail from Main Street, The Square and Chapel Lane or who may have lived or worked in the area for any length of time.

Events planned for the weekend include from 1.30pm a guided walk of the area meeting long time residents, 3.15pm unveiling of commemorative plaque and visit to photographic exhibition at Merrick’s Corner House, 4.30pm Mass in St Colman’s Church for deceased residents and family members,

7.30pm gathering dinner and Main Street heritage evening upstairs at Maxwell’s Main Street. Tickets on sale at €20 from Maxwell’s, Vaughan’s Shoes and Smyth’s Newsagents.

The Main Street Gathering will coincide with the fun scarecrow event being organised by Claremorris Men’s Shed group and will be followed don the Sunday by the famous Claremorris Agricultural Show. It promises to be a wonderful weekend for all Claremorris people at home or away and particularly for families.

A spokeswoman for the organising committee said: “Responses have been pouring in from people who have been away for years and we expect this to be a very special occasion for all concerned. It is important to point out that while we are inviting all who lived or live here to come along and meet old neighbours and friends there is an open invitation to all with Claremorris connections as the town centre really belongs to everyone.”
