Hole in ones hit in a number of clubs last weekend

Balla

Last weekend’s stableford competition in the club was sponsored by Lavins Foods and Oliver Moran took home the honours in the gents section with a score of 41pts. Stephen Barrett finished in second with Fintan Barrett in third place. The ladies section win was claimed by Breege Moran on 40pts while Mary Brett finished in second place and Mary Conlon came home in third place. Noel Hoban hit a hole in one on the sixth hole in the competition, to round out a nice weekend of golf in Balla.

Ballina

Darren Beattie with a score of 45pts was the winner of the Connolly Motors sponsored competition last weekend. Tony Kieran finished in second place and Malcolm Nash was the third placed male. While Paul Cawley hit a hole in one in the competition on the 14th hole. In the ladies Carmel’s Fashions competition, Dolores Tuohy was the winner on 39pts, with Mary Rafter finishing in second and Siobhain Leonard taking third place. Paul Cawley hit a hole in one in the gents competition on the 14th hole.

Ballyhaunis

Eddie Murphy Jr was the winner of Western Brand 18 hole stroke competition with a score of 63nett last weekend. Second place went to Eugene Kilbride and Ivan Freeley took third place. The ladies competition was won by Helma VanDe Put on 65nett and Marina Coyle finished in second place, with Kevin Kilbride scoring 65nett to win the junior event.

Castlebar

Last weekend saw the final round of the Lady Captains’ prize and at the end of 36 holes of golf, Sheila Baynes emerged as the winner with a total score of 140. She followed up her 73 on the first day with a 67 on day two. Frances O’Dowd finished in second place and Betty Gannon came home in third place, while Connie Whyte was the gross prize winner.

Claremorris

Tony Todd took the win in the Brendan Walsh Heat Solutions competition in the south Mayo club last weekend with a score of 42pts. Peter Coen was the second placed finisher, with Martin Murphy taking third place and Shea O’Donnell the category prize win. Patricia Prendergast was the winner of the ladies competition and Kieran Canavan won the junior prize.

Mulranny

There were some incredible scores in last weekends Padraic McHale, Menswear sponsored competition. Ger Staunton and Jerome Rau both finished on 46pts, with Staunton taking the win thanks to his back nine play. Peter Hopkins finished in third place, just one point further back. Preparations are underway in the club for Mick O’Donnell’s Captains’ Day on Sunday, July 28. While it’s the turn of the Lady Captains’ Prize (Angela Moran ) this weekend.

Swinford

The Lady Captains’ Prize was won by Margaret Sweeney on a score of 63, Dympna O’Donnell finished in second place and Adrienne Ring finished in third place. The nine hole competition was claimed by Marian Thornburg with Josie Prendergast finishing in second. Also taking place last week was an 18 hole gents stableford won by Brendan Wilson on a score of 44pts, with Keith McHugh finishing in second place and Michael Walsh in third place.

Westport

Steve Cannon won the club stableford competition last weekend with a score of 39pts, with Norman Houston finishing in second place a point further back. Bill Hopkins was a very popular winner of the 9th annual Hastings Insurance Mayo Seniors competition played at Westport Golf Club recently. On one of the hottest days of the year Bill matched his best ever stableford round and had three shots to spare over Phonsie McLoughlin (Ballina. ) Des Mahon event organiser was delighted with the entry of 140 golfers from all over Connacht.
