European Public Art Commission opportunity for Irish Artists

Mayo is set to host a new international arts programme following a successful EU bid for €200,000. Mayo County Council arts office’s, public art programme, working with project partners in UK and Spain, has secured the funding from the education, audio-visual and culture executive of the European Commission towards the contemporary visual and digital arts programme Changing Tracks, part of the European Union’s culture programme 2007 to 2013. In total, 476 applications were submitted from across Europe, with 114 selected for funding.

Changing Tracks will see the creation of nine outdoor temporary artworks by up and coming artists that respond and relate to former railway lines, their heritage and their future. There will be three artworks in Mayo in Ireland. The sites for the three temporary artworks in Mayo will be along the Great Western Greenway. The art installations will take place during Spring and Summer 2014. Irish artists are now invited to submit proposals via an open competition process. Full briefing documents for artists are available now via www.mayococo.ie under arts service, or by contacting public art co-ordinator Gaynor Seville [email protected]
