Taoiseach announces 10 engineering jobs in Mayo company

An Taoiseach Enda Kenny announced the creation of 10 new jobs for Ireland’s engineering sector on Wednesday.

Horizon, a manufacturing engineering specialist company established in 2010, already employ 32 people at their Westport headquarters and An Taoiseach officially opened their new Dublin offices as part of an ambitious expansion plan.

An Taoiseach praised Horizon’s achievements and remarked on the growing importance of Ireland’s manufacturing sector. He said: “Manufacturing is a key part of the Government's Action Plan for Jobs and is a driving force behind Ireland's economic growth, now and in the future, particularly within the life science, medical device and pharmaceutical sectors. To get the best out of our manufacturing sector and to continue to attract foreign direct investment, we must support and encourage our engineering talent by improving competitiveness and developing cutting-edge technology. A growing number of companies in this sector, like Horizon, share this vision for Ireland’s manufacturing future.”

Last month, Horizon announced the successful completion of its serialisation programme with pharmaceutical companies, leading the charge against the growing counterfeit drug problem. Its management of ‘track and trace’ systems help manufacturers comply with tough new international regulations, preventing the sales of dangerous medicines.

Set up three years ago, Horizon has experienced rapid growth and is on target to double revenues to €5 million by 2015, with plans to bring its staff numbers up to 42 during the same period. With support from Enterprise Ireland, Horizon already exports its engineering consultancy services to companies in the US, France and Belgium.

Horizon’s SMART manufacturing system is being piloted with SMEs and foreign direct investors, increasing operational capacity and productivity whilst also driving down costs.

Aiden Corcoran is the managing director of Horizon and welcoming this week’s visit and jobs announcement by An Taoiseach, he said: “Our expansion into Dublin with 10 highly skilled engineering roles is another important milestone for the business. Through the roll-out of our new services, Horizon wants to help manufacturers climb the ‘Global Manufacturing Competitiveness Index’, to compete with the top ranked nations around the world.”

The 10 jobs will be based in Dublin and Mayo, across engineering, consultancy and business development functional areas. Recruitment has already begun with application details available from the careers page at www.teamhorizon.ie
