After the success of last summer’s para-cycling programme held in Kilmovee, Mayo Sports Partnership, in association with Mayo League cycling clubs and Cycling Ireland, will be putting newcomers through the paces with a series of come and try events being held at Claremorris track on Monday evenings at 4pm.
Both last year’s athletes and new athletes will be welcome with two adult hand bikes and one youth’s hand bike being made available. A tandem will hopefully be introduced in the coming few weeks for the visually impaired, and the programme will conclude in early September with the Pat Towey TOPAZ Time Trial series which proved a huge success last season. Westport Sportif cycle challenge coming up
The Westport Sportif is bringing two days of great cycling to Mayo in two weeks time, where there is something for everyone. On Saturday July 20 the Westport Sportif leisure cycle will take place over two distances, with an 80km route or a 160km route taking in some of the most picturesque parts of Mayo and Connemara. Registration will take place at the Leisure Park, James Street, in Westport on Friday July 19 from 7pm to 10pm and from 7am to 8am on the day of the event. The 160km challenge will leave the Leisure Park on Saturday at 9am and the 80km will leave at 9.15am. The cost of entry is €45 and includes an event cycling jersey.
Later that evening the “Crit” will take place in Westport town, where the Covey Wheelers and Western Lakes Cycling Club which have joined together to put on this event will compete over a closed circuit in the town, in three category races. This style of race is very popular all over Europe during the summer months.
On Sunday, July 21 it is a family fun event with a cycle along the 42km route along the Greenway from Westport to Achill and refreshments will be served along the route on the day. For more information log on to www.westportif.ie or email [email protected]
