Former Davitt College student Eimear McBride will return to Castlebar next Thursday to launch her debut novel A Girl is Half-Formed Thing, at 6.30pm in the Castlebar Book Shop, Castle Street, Castlebar.
Eimear McBride moved to Castlebar from Tubbercurry at 14 years of age and immersed herself in the arts scene in the town, attending everything she could in the Linenhall Arts Centre.
After finishing school she moved to London to study at the Drama Centre London and worked as an actress for a short time, before realising she wanted to write. She spent the next few years writing and travelling and between temp jobs she wrote A Girl is a Half Formed Thing when she was 27. But it has been far from an overnight success, it took her nine years to get her novel published and after finally succeeding she has seen it receive glowing reviews, with the Times Literary Supplement saying of the novel “Writing of this quality is rare and deserves a wide readership.” Eimear McBride is currently working on her second novel and she will be in Castlebar next Thursday July 11 to launch the book, at 6.30pm in the Castle Book Shop.
