Ballina bus shelter granted long-awaited funding

Mayo Fine Gael TD Michelle Mulherin has welcomed the funding approval for a bus shelter at Humbert Street in Ballina.

Deputy Mulherin said: “This is excellent news for all those who use this busy Ballina bus stop at Humbert Street.

“The bus stop is used mainly by shoppers and tourists visiting Ballina coming from Ballycastle and the Erris area and from the County Sligo direction. The bus shelter and better facilities will provide protection from the elements for all those public transport users. Also it is stipulated that the works are to be carried out this year and I understand that Bus Éireann is liaising with the council in relation to planning for the shelter.”

Dep Mulherin said she lobbied for this funding when she was a member of Ballina Town Council and Mayo County Council and since being elected as a TD. But she added: “I wasn't the only elected representative to do so! The provision of a bus shelter has proven to be a bit of a saga and it is indeed great news it is now coming to an end.”
