Ring announces €75,000 funding for three Mayo boxing clubs

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring has announced €75,000 worth of grants for three boxing clubs in County Mayo.

The successful clubs, which are each receiving €25,000, are Ballinrobe Boxing Club, Knockmore Boxing Club, and Swinford Boxing Club.

“These grants will be used to improve and upgrade shower and toilet facilities [in particular, though not exclusively, to facilitate the participation of women], to provide/improve heating facilities, and to undertake general maintenance work- painting, flooring, etc,” outlined Minister Ring.

“These grants can be used for a wide range of measures which will greatly improve the facilities of the boxing clubs. This input of funding recognises that many boxing clubs continue to operate in facilities which are in poor condition and lack basic facilities. It is another important step in helping to ensure that young people who join boxing clubs can train in decent, fit-for-purpose, facilities. Also, there will be a particular focus on providing facilities for women boxers,” continued Minister Ring.

“This funding is in recognition of the excellent work carried out by the Irish Amateur Boxing Association and I am delighted to be able to announce this funding to the boxing clubs,” he concluded.
