Ballina Salmon Festival secures Fáilte Ireland funding

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring TD has announced funding of €2,500 to the Ballina Salmon Festival which is taking place from July 7 to 15.

This funding has been granted through Fáilte Ireland, under their Regional Festivals and Events Initiative. The funding is being allocated towards the national and international advertising costs of the festival.

Ballina Salmon Festival is one of the foremost festivals in Mayo and the west of Ireland. The festival has been running for many years and draws huge crowds to that area, with over 200,000 people expected to attend the eight day festival again this year.

It is estimated that the increase in tourist numbers as a result of people attending the Ballina Salmon Festival will generate millions to the local economy.

“This community based festival is always very well run and the committee must be complimented on the wonderful work they carry out. Hopefully this funding will help, in some way, with the costs of the festival and will ensure continued success with this event,” concluded Minister Ring.
