Ballinrobe Community Development Council has arranged a presentation which will be given by Howley Hayes Architects, outlining the findings of their conservation and management plan for the Bower’s Walk in Ballinrobe. The presentation will take place on Tuesday June 11, at 7.30pm on the first floor of the Credit Union building on Main Street, Ballinrobe.
Howley Hayes has investigated the significance of the natural and built heritage of the Bower’s, identified threats, outlined conservation works needed, and provided a vision for the future of this historic place. In conjunction with this study a number of local school groups have undertaken projects about the Bower’s and it is hoped to have these on display on the night.
A number of interesting ideas and opportunities have been proposed. The presentation will be open to the public and the organisers urge local community groups and all those who have an interest in Ballinrobe and the Bower’s Walk to attend.
The Bower’s report was commissioned by Ballinrobe Community Development Council (CDC ) and substantially funded by South West Mayo Development Company (LEADER ), as well as contributions from local businesses and individuals. Mayo County Council has also provided support and advice for this project. Representatives from all of these groups will be in attendance on the night. The full report from Howley Hayes Architects, Punch Consulting, Austin Reddy & Co, CRDS Ltd, and Christopher Moriarty is available on www.historicalballinrobe.com Ballinrobe CDC was founded in 2005 and since then has driven a large number of initiatives in the town, including the securing of funding for the town’s CCTV system, the reinvigoration of the Tidy Towns and the Neighbourhood Watch Committees, organisation of promotional sale days in the town, the installation of the playground at the Green, the co-ordination of the annual St Patrick’s Day Parade, the establishment of the Heritage Walk in the town, the twinning of Ballinrobe with Luzinay in France, and many other worthwhile projects.
