New music bank for youngsters in Mayo

The County Community Forum Instrument Music Bank, in the ownership of Mayo County Community Forum, is a new resource for young musicians in Mayo. Instruments from this bank can be borrowed by young people (up to 18 ) in the south west Mayo area for a period of up to one year.

This is the first phase in the development of an instrument bank for young people in Mayo, which will shortly be extended to all areas of the county. The provision of affordable instruments is one of the key actions outlined the strategic plan for music in the county, generated by Mayo’s Music Education Partnership.

Through inter-library loans this approach ensures that children and young people will be able to access instruments through their local library network in south west Mayo (local branches in Achill, Ballinrobe, Claremorris, Castlebar, Louisburgh and Westport ). They will be available for loan from June 4.

Application forms and a full list of the instruments will be available on www.mayolibrary.ie or from your library branches in the south west Mayo area. Instruments will be loaned on a first come first served and waiting lists will be established if there is extra demand for an instrument. If you are interested in applying for an instrument loan contact Richard Hickey at Mayo County Library on 094 904 7921 or [email protected]
