Iarnród Éireann has announced the winners of 100 free group trips as part of its community initiative, The Journey’s On Us. The Mayo groups that were victorious; Rock n Roses Choir, Swinford; Kilcommon Community Council; Castlebar Mitchels Camogie Club; No Name Club, Castlebar; GMIT Castlebar Green Campus Committee; St Joseph’s Primary School, Ballinrobe; Westport Family and Community Resource Centre; and Westport Ladies Gaelic Football Club.
More than 650 organisations from right across the community, voluntary and sporting sectors, applied.
Iarnród Éireann chief executive David Franks said: “We have been overwhelmed again this year by the level of interest in The Journey’s On Us from voluntary organisations across the country; we hope that the winners from Mayo will enjoy their trip. It’s our way of saying thank you for all the great work you do in the community.”
Under the initiative, 100 groups of up to 50 people will receive a free return group travel journey from Iarnród Éireann, across any of the company’s services. The travel facilities will be ideal in particular for organisations bringing a group to a special event, or as part of a specific support to the members of the group which requires travel.
