The Clew Bay Pipe Band will showcase its spectacular summer show at Hotel Westport on Friday June 14.
The pipe band contains a wealth of multi-talented musicians from the Clew Bay area. This show is full of energy and enthusiasm and keeps audiences of all ages gripped from start to finish as it blends traditional Scottish pipe music along with modern contemporary rock, South African tribal music, and traditional Irish music. This is an incredible entertainment show that fuses both old style and contemporary music with strength and passion.
The band owes its origins to two sons of Achill, a place where the tradition of piping makes it almost an innate talent, and practically a birthright. Des Cafferkey is the pipe major of Banna Píob Chuan Modh, which makes him the musical director, and senior instrumentalist. Peter Carney is his deputy, who co-ordinates the behind the scenes work and logistics for the group.
Coda, a Westport based five piece male voice choir are performing with the pipe band in Hotel Westport on the night. This unique combination of melodic male voices and rapturous bagpipe music ensures to grab the audience by the ears and whisk them on a journey of vivid intensity. The band will also be joined by the lyrical and fiercely popular local ‘boy’ band group Edison who feature regularly in the music based venues in the area.
The show will start at 8pm. Price is €10 for adults, and €5 for children under 16 and OAPs.
