Ballina driver of car with defects convicted

A 20-year-old driver of a Subaru which had no NCT, a bald tyre, faulty indicators and a yellow and black number plate was convicted and fined at Ballina District Court this week.

Ciaran Durkan, Cullane, Attymass, Ballina was stopped driving his Subaru on August 27 at 1.14am on Kevin Barry Street, Ballina by Garda John Barrett, who observed a number of defects on the vehicle—a front right bald tyre; the left and right front indicators were not working and the registration plate on the back of the car did not conform to standards. There was no NCT on the car either.

Gda Barrett said that he saw the defendant drive the car about four weeks ago and that only the indicators were fixed.

Durkan admitted to the court that he was still driving the car without an NCT which was booked in for December 19.

The defendant, who has no previous convictions, was convicted and fined by Judge Mary Devins— €250 for having no NCT; €200 for the bald tyre and €200 for the faulty indicators. The registration plate was taken into consideration.
