Man slashed brothers tyres following family row

A Claremorris man who slashed the four tyres on his brother’s jeep following a row with his brother the week before, which left him with knife wounds on his arm, had his case adjourned for sentencing until July this week.

Supt Joe Doherty told Castlebar District Court that Eamon Gill, with an address at 1 Barna Halla, Claremoris, drove to the rear of Griffith Apartments, Dalton Street, Claremorris on May 17 2013 at 3.35pm and proceeded to slash the four tyres on his brother’s jeep which was parked there. He then parked his car and was found sitting in it by gardai with the knife he used to slash the tyres on the dashboard of the car. Supt Doherty reading from the statement of the injured party explained that Gill’s brother had been warned by his mother that Eamon was on the way to see him and that he saw Eamon Gill slash his tyres from a window and he then called the gardai. The court was also also told that Eamon Gill had demanded €10,000 from his brother for the injuries he received following the previous row with his brother and wanted that money.

Judge Mary Devins asked had Gill made a criminal complaint about the incident where he received the knife wounds. Supt Doherty told the court that at the time of this incident he hadn’t, but he did make a complaint subsequently and it was being investigated by the gardai. Judge Devins told Gill, “You can’t be using gangland tactics to get a debt you think you’re owed.” But since Gill had now made a criminal complaint about his brother she decided to adjourn the matter for sentencing until July 16 to allow the investigation to be carried out by gardai.
