A Claremorris man who pleaded guilty to a charge of driving without insurance had his sentencing adjourned till a later date following the emergence that he was facing similar charges in the coming months at a different court.
James Stevens, with an address at Streamstown, Claremorris, was stopped by gardai at Ballinastankford, Claremorris, on December 22 2012 at 2.08pm. Gardai demanded the production of his driving licence and insurance documentation. Stevens produced a provisional driving licence, he was driving unaccompanied when he was stopped, and an insurance cert that expired on December 19 2012. Following further investigations by gardai, they learned that his insurance policy had actually been cancelled by his insurance provider on October 30 2012, because he failed to pay a direct debit instalment for the policy. Superintendent Joe Doherty informed the court that there were more similar charges coming up for the same defendant and Judge Mary Devins adjourned this case until June 18 for mention on that date, so she can deal with all the cases at once.
