Garavan at the Clew Bay Hotel Gallery
Rusting Roofs is a solo exhibition of painting, drawing and sculpture by artist Pauline Garavan which is currently showing at the Clew Bay Hotel, Westport. The exhibition has been extended for a further week until May 30. The work is an in-depth study of west of Ireland rusted galvanised corrugated roofs. Through a close-up examination the work explores their hidden and sometimes irregular beauty. It is based on a detailed photographic study of rusting roofs over a number of years.
Mikel Murfi at the Linenhall
Funny, sad, and sometimes downright daft, award-winning actor Mikel Murfi presents his hilarious one-man show The Man in The Woman's Shoes at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday May 30 at 8pm.
It's October 1978 and Pat Farnon has some ‘business’ to do in town, but a five-mile walk is no joke when you have to do it in a pair of women's shoes. Join Pat on this hilarious journey as he encounters a host of characters with plenty to say for themselves as he walks from his wee white cottage to town and back again. It is a charming encounter - an ageing man still with a boundless enthusiasm for life. Mikel Murfi is an award-winning actor, director, and playwright who has regularly appeared at The Abbey, and was a founding member of the acclaimed Barabbas… The Company.
Choral classics in Ballina
Tonight Friday in St Muredach’s Cathedral at 8pm, you can experience a concert of sacred classics including the “Ave Maria”, Vivaldi’s “Gloria”, the famous “Hallelujah” chorus, “Queen of the May”, Andrea Bochelli’s “The Lord’s Prayer”, and many more favourite choral and instrumental classics in the beautiful candle-lit setting of St Muredach’s Cathedral. The concert will get under way at 8pm with the St Muredach’s Cathedral Choir and its soloists Debbie McCole, Therese Gaughan, Alan McGinty, Jim Walshe, and many more taking to the stage. Regina Deacy is the musical director and guest soloists are Lavinia Gilmartin (soprano ), Andrew Sheeran (violinist ), and Fr Gabriel Rosbotham. Tickets cost €10 and are available from the parish office on 096 70555 and all proceeds are going towards the repairs to the cathedral organ and the building itself.
Tractors and Barns comes to Castlebar
Tractors and Barns is the title of a highly engaging exhibition of paintings and etchings by multi-award-winning Mayo-based artist John McNulty that opens on Friday May 31 at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar.
John says of this exhibition of rural imagery: “This is a selection of my paintings and etchings from the last four or five years. The themes are rural with images of barns, farms, and tractors. The source of the work is south Mayo where I live, and the Midlands where I spent some of my youth. The approach varies from realistic to more abstracted pieces.”
Bolton and Alan come to Claremorris

The duo will be performing in Claremorris Library tonight Friday at 8pm to promote their album.
