Having undergone cancer treatment for the last year, Mayo Advertiser advertising executive Tom Lohan wanted to give something back to the people who have helped him along the way.
Tom turned to photography to help him in his cancer journey, and the culmination of his work can be viewed in his second photographic exhibition ‘Silver Linings from Testing Times’ at The Galway Roast, Market Square, Castlebar on Friday, May 17, from 6pm to 8pm.
“Rock Rose House (Mayo Cancer Care ) was the first place I went on the day I stopped work in May 2012 to prepare for treatment. It was a place to go and talk to people who understood what you were going through mentally and physically. It was a place to talk and cry without any embarrassment. I had been holding all the emotion in while at work, staying focused on work and blocking out all the worry. It was a major release of emotion that I needed. I also received massage and therapies there along the journey to help me relax and recover from treatments,” explained Tom who is donating the proceeds of his exhibition to Rock Rose House.
“I took up photography as therapy to get me out of my apartment and visit beautiful places in Mayo and Galway, on my good days. I am now very pleased to be able to use my photos to help raise money for Rock Rose House. My friends and family are the people who have encouraged me to display my work,” added Tom.
Speaking of his photos Tom said: “I hope you enjoy viewing them as much I love sharing them.”
