Christmas food fair and open day
Tomorrow Saturday December 13 from 11am to 5pm, start the Christmas season in style with your family at the National Museum of Ireland Country Life. Supported by Mayo County Enterprise Board. Yuletide treats including: Christmas Food Fair - traditional festive fare from a variety of food producers from around the region. admission free. Christmas exhibition in the museum galleries . Christmas workshops - fully booked. Santa Claus and his Magic Elves from 12 pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm to 4.30pm. Cost €2 per child. Tickets available from the museum from 11am on Saturday December 13. Christmas carols – with Mayo Male Voice Choir and Gospel Singers. Face Painting. Free gift wrapping in the museum shop. Museum Café open.
Don't forget: when you leave the Museum visit the Craftmakers Christmas fair in the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar, Co. Mayo. Saturday December 13, from 10am to 6.pm. The Craftmakers’ Christmas Fair brings together around 30 of the foremost exponents of a diverse selection of crafts from all over Ireland to present their distinctive wares for your delectation, delight and purchase. A range of top ceramics, woodcraft, leather work, jewellery, textiles, metalwork and more will be on show, with an opportunity to meet and buy direct from the makers themselves.
Mummer’s Masks Workshop
On Tuesday December 16 from 2pm to 3pm , why not come down and find out about the mummers. The mummers were a group of people who traditionally performed an intricate play with various characters around Christmas time. Join Ted Kelly to make a mummer’s mask. Location. Education Room.

Enjoy traditional Christmas carols with the Foxford National School Band on Friday December 19 from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
The Holly Bears a Berry
On Sunday December 21 from 3pm to 4.30pm, a concert celebrating the winter Solstice and the coming of Christmas through traditional tunes and songs with musician Emer Mayock and guests will be a great all-ages event.
Our Place in Space
Based on the geological collections of the National Museum of Ireland Natural History, this exhibition includes a collection of meteorites, many of which fell in Ireland, that tell us more about the origins of our planet. A highlight is the Limerick Meteorite that fell near Adare, County Limerick in 1813, Ireland's largest ever meteorite weighing in at 27 kilos. The exhibition also features some of the folk traditions associated with the moon and the stars. Running until spring 2009.
