Westport 5k run, jog, and walk on May 12

Planning is now at an advanced stage for the Westport 5k run, jog, and walk, which takes place at Westport Quay on Sunday May 12. All proceeds from this event will go towards the Quay School and a large entry is expected. While there will be a competitive aspect to the 5k race, a huge number of participants are expected to jog and walk at a more leisurely pace.

The event gets under way with a children’s race (primary school children only ) on the Greenway at 1.15pm. This race will be finished by about 1.45pm and all children who take part will receive a prize.

The Westport 5k run, jog, and walk will then get under way at 2pm, and all participants will follow an accurately measured course which will start at Westport Quay and follow a very well designed route to finish on the Greenway at the Quay School.

Registration will take place in the Quay School from 11.30am onwards and entry is €10 (adult ), €5 (child ), to a maximum of €20 per family. An invitation is extended to both the school and wider community to join in on the day.

Some wonderful prizes are on offer and will be allocated to first, second, and third in both the gents’ and ladies’ race. First prize in each race will be a Garmin Forerunner 110 watch.

Over the last number of weeks a small committee has worked diligently to make sure that this will be a memorable event and with one week to go all indications are that a great crowd will be in attendance. The organisers wish to record their thanks to Westport Town Council and Westport Gardaí for their assistance.

Light refreshments will be served in the school hall immediately afterwards and a presentation of prizes will take place at about 3.15pm. Supervised car parking will be available at the Quay School.
