Sections of the Castle Street car park in Castlebar have been described by local town councillor Ger Deere as an “outdoor obstacle course” due to the number of potholes and uneven surfaces.
Cllr Deere highlighted the section around the entrance to the Castlebar Social Services Centre as being particularly bad and expressed concern that this is an area which is used by elderly people attending services there on a daily basis.
The situation has become so serious that many of the centre’s users have contacted Cllr Deere to try to get the holes repaired before a serious accident occurs.
Cllr Deere said that as part of the town council’s 2013 works programme it is planned to carry out works on the car park but he is now calling on the town council to expedite these works on this section of the carpark as it poses a serious risk to the public’s safety.
