Let's turn Mayo pink

“Let's get together and turn Mayo pink” is the call from the Mayo Pink Ribbon Cycle organisers. Pink is the colour for Saturday May 4 and Mayo people are asked to do their bit in their own area to transform the county into a portrait in pink.

There are three routes spiralling out from Castlebar, but as the organisers point out, it is not just the routes themselves that merit decorating.

Mayo Pink Ribbon Cycle is a leisure cycle not a race so which makes it very appealing for cyclists of all standards. There are three distances—50k, 110k, or 175k. All routes start and finish at the Royal Theatre in Castlebar and are very well marked and marshalled.

The cycle is a fundraising event for breast cancer research and all entrants are asked to raise a minimum of €100 for this very worthy cause. Throughout the day cyclists are well supported with water/fruit stops and lunch, and the day finishes with a celebration banquet, all of which is included. See www.mayopinkribbon.ie or telephone Lourda McHugh on 086 856 2423 for further details.

Another upcoming Pink Ribbon fundraiser is Willie Joe Padden’s barbecue tonight (Friday April 26 ) at Cox’s Bar and Restaurant, Castlebar (€15 ).
