GMIT Castlebar students attempt world record

Four archers from GMIT Castlebar are attempting to break a world record this morning, Friday, by completing the world’s longest archery shoot of more than 27 hours. The four archers are Adria Quinn, Paddy Woods, Michael Quinn, and Thomas Breen. The students hit their first attempt at the record at 9am yesterday and will be going through till after noon today if they are to break the record.

Members of the public along with staff and students were encouraged to go along to the event yesterday and this morning which is taking place in St Mary’s Hall on the campus. There will be strict supervision and guidelines that have to be followed to comply with Guinness Book of Records rules as they attempt to break this record.

The shooters have teams of helpers, medical crew on standby, and are strictly monitored and take scheduled rest and food breaks. The event will be fully video recorded with back up recording as well as having a team of expert witnesses. All proceeds raised in conjunction with the record attempt will go to Barretstown Camp for children suffering from serious illness.
