Throughout the month of May, Áras Inis Gluaire will be hosting events to mark the national annual Bealtaine festival. All these events are free and are an opportunity for older people to get involved in their local arts centre. The festival kicks off on Wednesday May 8 at 3pm when they will open their art in the afternoon showcase. This is a collection of paintings by a group of men who have been painting in the centre every Monday afternoon. Go along and see these fantastic pieces. Teas and coffees will be provided and Micheal S Togher will lead a singsong afterwards. Also on May 8, an exhibition by Amanda Jane Graham will open entitled A Tribute to the Irish Community, Montana. This fascinating exhibition will include a walk around talk by the artist about her work which has an interesting historical element.
On Thursday May 16 a concert by The Whistleblast Quartet will take place at 6.30pm. A selection of classical and popular tunes from The Pink Panther to Bizet. The following Thursday, May 23, the hilarious duo The Gombeens will be performing. Enquiries on any of the above to Lorraine on 097 81079.
