Student records album for breast cancer

Outstanding new talent, 16-year-old Galway city transition year student at Colaiste na Coiribe Laoise Nolan, is currently recording her debut CD entitled In the Pink.

All the proceeds from the sale will go to Mayo Pink Ribbon which has raised more than €300,000 for National Centre Breast Cancer Research at NUI Galway where six research scientists are employed full time as a result.

The CD will be launched on Saturday May 4 by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny at the conclusion of the fourth annual Mayo Pink Ribbon 100km cycle in the Traveller’s Friend Hotel in Castlebar at 9pm.

The album will feature both her own original songs and some cover versions and she will be joined on the album by musician friends, including ex Stunning members Steve Wall and Jimmy Higgins, singer/songwriter Stephen James, and Frank Killkelly from Castlebar.

The daughter of teachers Brian O’Nualain, originally from Claremorris, and Kate Staunton from Tourmakeady, the motivation for the album was the desire to do something for breast cancer research after her mother’s diagnosis and successful completion of treatment.

The CD will be available at launch, in local shops, and from Mayo Pink Ribbon priced at €10. For further information telephone Laoise on 087 820 5745 or John McCormack 087 260 1636.
