Castlebar youngsters get selected for Fresh Film festival

A group of Castlebar youngsters submitted a film recently that was shortlisted at the Fresh Film Festival. The Fresh Film Festival has run for 17 years and allows young film makers from eight to 16 years old to make their own film. The final 50 short listed films were screened at a Limerick cinema in March.

The film entitled Don't Forget Your Wellies tells the story of a group of children who have fun and adventure with a young English cousin who stays with them during World War II.

It was filmed locally at Lough Rusheen in Derreenmanus on a blustery afternoon last September. The simple storyline and sense of fun and innocence seems to have struck a chord with many who have seen it. Four of the group were invited on to children's TV programme Elev8 on Friday April 5 to speak about their motivation and experience of making the movie.

The film crew comprised six girls from sixth class in St Angela’s National School in Castlebar as well as two boys from St Gerald's College and St Patrick’s National School.
