Windy weather causes havoc around the county

Balla

The team of Marion Gormally, Aodan McSuibhne, and Aine McSuibhne won the Waltz competition sponsored by Gilvarry and Associates last weekend, with the trio of Cath McNulty, Kathleen Minogue, and Geraldine O’Malley in second place.

Ballina

The club will be hosting a Pink Ribbon classic today Friday and tomorrow Saturday with all proceeds going towards cancer research. Entry fee for the classic is €160 for a team of four and for a tee time call the club on 096 20150. Michael Howley was the winner of last weekend’s open competition with a score of 43pts. The ladies’ 12 hole stableford last weekend sponsored by Lauranne’s Hair Salon was won by Elaine O’Hora on 24pts, with Catherine Egan finishing in second place on 22pts, and Marie McLoughlin in third place.

Ballinrobe

Ray Prendergast with a score of 73 nett won the Hollymount Nursing Home sponsored competition last Sunday. Aaron D’Arcy finished second with Denis Conroy third and the gross prize going to Ray D’Arcy. The ladies’ section was won by Marian Walsh with a score of 76 nett with Eileen Byrne second, Agnes O’Connor third, and Carmel Maloney finishing in fourth place.

Ballyhaunis

Last weekend’s competition was sponsored by Gilmartins Catering and Hygiene and Brian Philips was the gents’ winner on 39pts, with Eddie Murphy finishing in second place on 37pts. Ann Curley won the ladies’ prize on 40pts with the junior section going to Andrew Hickey.

Belmullet

Ed McAndrew was the winner of last weekend’s competition on 27pts, with Vincent Fahy only a point behind in second place, and Ronan Gaughan two points further back in third place. The front nine section was won by Paul Healy on 13pts with Brendan Gaughan taking the back nine win with 14pts.

Castlebar

The Baxter Healthcare competition held over last weekend was won by James Rocke who scored 66 nett, Des McGowan posted a 69 nett to take second place, with Raymond Walsh taking third place on 72 nett. Three ladies finished on 36pts in the ladies’ section, but on countback Breege Flynn came out as winner, with Derval Molloy second. and Phyllis Carney third. Introduction sessions for lady beginners will commence at Castlebar Golf Club at 7pm on Wednesday April 24 ,all ladies who are interested in taking up the game are very welcome to attend – these will be regular sessions each Wednesday night from April 24 on.

Claremorris

Noel Grier’s back nine play in the Kean’s Arrow sponsored competition last weekend saw him take the win on 37pts. Michael Cunningham also finished on 37pts in second place, with Sean McGuinness taking the category prize, and W Dermody the ladies’ win on 27pts.

Mulranny

Last weekend’s planned competition which was sponsored by Jack Dylan Jewellers, Westport, had to be cancelled as high winds played havoc on the course, and will be rescheduled for a later date. Entries for the club match play fourball championship has been extended until this Sunday April 21, interested members are asked to get their names in ASAP.

Westport

Due to the inclement weather on Sunday last the Hastings Garage sponsored event was cancelled and will be re-scheduled for later in the season.
