Man drove drunk after being at a party

A 38-year-old man who works as a mechanic in Bonniconlon was disqualified from driving for two years at Ballina District Court this week.

Gardaí observed Marcin Grzegorczyk, Apt 2, Dunnen, Enniscrone, Co Sligo, taking a right bend on the wrong side of the road and crossing over and back the centre line on Quay Road, Ballina, on June 10 2012 at 2.15am.

The defendant was stopped and failed a roadside breath test. A blood sample showed 127mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood. The man had been at a party.

Peter Loftus, solicitor for the defendant, asked for a short postponement in the disqualification so his client can move to Ballina for work.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €450 and disqualified him from driving for two years, with the disqualification to come into effect from May 6.
