According to figures released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry through their statistics website www.beepbeep.ie/stats new car registrations in Mayo are down by 17.6 per cent on the same time period last year. Overall nationally the new car sales figures were down 14 per cent on the same time last year.
A total of 791 new cars were registered in Mayo in the first three months of the year compared to 960 over the same time period in 2012. This 791 registrations gives Mayo an overall two per cent share of the number of registrations nationally.
However the total number of new light commercial vehicle registrations has gone up in the first three months of the year from 96 in 2012 to 121 in 2013, an increase of 26.04 per cent.
A similar trend was seen in the registrations of heavy commercial vehicle’s with a 128 per cent increase in new registrations in the county in the first three months with 16 new heavy commercial vehicles being registered in the first three months of 2013 compared to seven in 2012.
