Scottish poets to visit Mayo as part of poetry exchange programme

Scottish poets and musicians will follow in the steps of Raftery in the next few weeks as they plot a path to Mayo as part of the 2013 Turas na bhFilí poetry exchange programme.

As part of the annual Turas na bhFilí cultural exchange, Scottish poets will be joined by a Gàidhlig singer, and a Scottish musician and will arrive on Wednesday week, April 17. Established in 1970, Turas na bhFilí (The Poets’ Tour ) is one of the most recognised cultural exchange programmes between Ireland and Scotland. Scottish performers participating in this year’s Turas na bhFilí include the poets Meg Bateman and Gillebrìde MacMillan. The poets will be joined by fiddler, Allan Henderson and the Gàidhlig singer Sìneag Nic an t-Saoir.

During the 2013 tour the Scottish guests will visit the Iorras Gaeltacht in Mayo as well as Achill Island. While on their journey they will be joined by Irish poets, singers and musicians at various venues and it is hoped that the public in Mayo will come along and extend a Céad Míle Fáilte to the Scottish visitors.
