Today FM’s Louise Duffy calls for teams for ‘Four Peaks Challenge’

Today FM presenter Louise Duffy has called on teams to join Focus Ireland’s Four Peaks Challenge which aims to raise €300,000 by over 600 people climbing the highest peak in each of the four provinces over one weekend in June.

Crossmolina native Louise is looking forward to taking part in the charity’s ‘My Peak Challenge’ running on the same weekend of the main event from June 7 to 9. This year for the first time would be participants have the opportunity to sign up as an individual and climb just one peak.

Speaking at the launch Louise said: “I would call on as many people as possible to sign up for the 13th annual Focus Ireland Four Peaks to support the charity’s work to prevent homelessness. Last year more than 70 teams took part and here’s hoping even more do this year as Focus Ireland need to raise vital funds to cope with the growing demand for its services.

“If you don’t have the time or feel you’re not ready to take on the Four Peaks why not do the ‘My Peak Challenge’. You can choose to climb just one or two of Ireland's highest peaks Carrauntoohil and/or Lugnaquilla and you don’t need a team to take part. I’m really looking forward to being part of this event!”

Proudly supported by 100–102 Today FM, the Four Peaks takes place over three days when participants climb the highest mountain in each of the four provinces. The weekend begins with climbers taking on Carrauntoohil in Kerry on Friday, followed by Mweelrea in Mayo, Slieve Donard in Down and ends with Lugnaquilla in Wicklow on Sunday.

The Four Peaks is a team event, with each team consisting of a minimum of three and maximum of five climbers along with two drivers. This year the charity is delighted to launch their new driver free bus option for teams, making it even easier for people to get involved.

Focus Ireland said more people than even are at risk of losing their home due to the harsh impact of the recession, so the charity is working hard to provide targeted prevention services – along with advice and information - to prevent these families and single people from becoming homeless. Focus Ireland also helps many people to move on from homelessness and stressed the urgency of this work as the sad reality is that one in seven using homeless services is a child.
