The Mayo branch of the Teachers’ Union of Ireland has launched a new member satisfaction survey results document, which is the first of its kind to be produced in Ireland.
Presenting the results at the launch, chairperson of Mayo branch TUI and Davitt College teacher Aidan Brogan said that the survey revealed some very interesting results. “Twenty two per cent of TUI members have more than five years’ experience but do not have a contract and younger staff are doing multiple jobs that they are not being compensated for.” He added: “While we received a very generous 70 per cent respond rate for this survey and 87 per cent of respondents suggested a need for the union, there were other results that raise concern. Sixteen per cent of respondents have no idea of what TUI Mayo does, and 60 per cent expressed having only a vague understanding of what TUI does.”
Padraic McGuinness of PMG Consult said: “The primary purpose of this research was for the Mayo TUI branch to look at itself, but now with the positive reception of the report it just might be the catalyst for other branches to conduct their own surveys and then contribute to a national reflection of the levels of member satisfaction in the TUI.”
