A man from Ballina was who was found in possession of €30 worth of drugs at Castlebar Garda Station was before Ballina District Court this week for a probation report. Judge Mary Devins said that the man seems to be “making some moves in the right direction”.
At a previous court sitting it was outlined that on September 3 2011 at 2am, Liam Christie, 16 Cluain na Ri, Ballina was arrested for being intoxicated. At Castlebar Garda Station he was searched where white powder was found on his possession. The powder was sent away for analysis which turned out to be an amphetamine.
The court heard that the defendant, who has five previous convictions, has a drink and drug problem and is looking to enter a centre to treat his addictions.
The case was adjourned to this week’s court, where his solicitor, John Gordon said that Christie is attending an addiction counsellor and is also undertaking a computer course. Mr Gordon asked that the defendant should continue with ongoing support with the probation services.
Judge Devins adjourned the case to November 26 for an updated probation report.
