Students from Mount St Michael, St Gerald’s College, and Gaelcholaiste Chomain took part in the north west regional final of The Gathering Ireland short film competition for transition year students, supported by Bank of Ireland.
Nicole Dillon, Megan Hunt, Ciara Hutton, and Yasmin Grace-Kemp from Mount St Michael made a video called Meet Claremorris which highlights the many things that Mayo has to offer visitors of The Gathering Ireland 2013, including a vibrant town centre and natural amenities, among them Clare Lake Forest Greenway.
Cian Ruane and Conor McDonnell from St Gerald’s College made a film called Castlebar - Do you believe me now? that draws attention to the local tennis, GAA, and fishing facilities.
Shane Moran, Emer O’Donnell, Callum Bashford, and Ryan McGrath from Gaelcholaiste Chomain made a film called The Gathering Erris – We’re part of it. Their production showcases amenities including Doolough beach, the fishing harbour, and the vibrant nightlife scene in the area.
They joined transition year students from schools throughout the northwest in The Clarion Hotel, Sligo, on Wednesday, March 6, where 10 shortlisted films were judged by a panel made up of representatives of The Gathering Ireland 2013, the Department of Education, and the local Bank of Ireland.
The competition was launched last year to encourage transition year students to be part of The Gathering Ireland 2013 by showcasing all that they love about their hometown through the medium of film.
