Westport to host international conference

Westport is to host an international conference from May 14 to 16, the only conference to be held outside of Dublin during Ireland’s presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The conference - The Potential and Challenges of developing Wilderness in Modified European Landscapes is being organised by Coillte in co-operation with the National Parks and Wildlife Service and Mayo County Council and is supported by Pan Parks and Wild Europe.

The news has been welcomed by Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring who said: “I welcome this conference which will have delegates from all over Europe in attendance to Westport. This event will boost the local economy but will also serve to enhance Westport’s status as an ideal conference destination.

“The conference is encouraging for all accommodation providers in Westport and allows us to show our guests that Westport is an excellent venue for international events. I wish the organisers and participants every success.”
