In last weekend’s ladies’ nine hole scramble the trio of Siobhain Leonard, Ethine Daly and Lynn McManamon were the winners on 27.8 nett. Second place went to the team of Kathleen Connor, Ann White and Eimear O’Halloran on 30.5 nett.

Castlebar

The grand final of the Winter League will be played in Castlebar this Sunday, March 10. Due to the bad weather at the end of February, some teams had to play their final round of the competition last weekend. The top three teams in each round qualified for Sunday’s grand final, along with the six best remaining teams over the course of the league. But there is still hope for two of the non-qualifying teams with a non-qualifier competition taking place tomorrow, Sunday March 9 with two final spots up for grabs.

The six qualifiers for the grand final of the Ladies’ Spring League were also decided last weekend after the final round of league play. The qualifiers are Team F (Sheila Baynes, Ann Gallagher, Pauline O'Donoghue, Mary Lawlor and Rita Moran ), Team P (Derval Molloy, Maeve Nevin, Nancy Rowland, Anne O'Sullivan and Ann Melvin ), Team M (Evelyn Brady, Dolores Towey, Terri Fahy, Mary Casey and Elaine Healy ), Team E (Ger Lyons, Brigid Toher, Mary McHale, Dympna Smyth and Bernie Walsh ), Team A (Breda Gilvarry, Mary Caulfield, Maura Phelan, Laurena Murphy and Teresa Heneghan ) and Team N (Bernie Burke, Christine Gordon, Teresa Kelly, Catherine Reilly and M Clarke ).

Claremorris

Eamon Doherty was the winner of week four of the Spring League with a score of 36pts. Second place went to Brian McGuinness and third to John Concannon. The ladies’ prize was won by Peggy Tawse on 29pts. The top of team leaderboard is very tight, with one week to go. Balla High Road lead on 920pts, with Miltown just two points behind, and Tuam Killererin Galway City a further seven points back. With double points for the final week, a tight finish is expected.

Mulranny

Tomorrow morning will see the annual Captain’s Drive-In take place at the club. This year the honour will fall to Mick O’Donnell and Angela Moran to hit the tee shots. A nine-hole scramble will take place after the Drive In. A score of 37pts last weekend was enough for Peter Hopkins and David Martin to claim the win and the opportunity to represent the club in the Daily Mail National foursomes.

Westport

The final stages of the winter league are upon us. With the competition on schedule, this ever popular event has certainly sorted the men from the boys. Jim Keane's team who are already into the semi-final are now slight favourites to take the overall title. Nuala Moody and Christy Madigan will this year have the honour of starting the season with their Captain's Drive-In which takes place on Saturday at noon. There will be a nine-hole scramble afterward and light refreshments will be served in the bar after the presentation of prizes.
