Quay area to be revamped

Smarter travel project funding will lead to the enhancement of the Quay area in Westport.

Simon Wall, town architect, said that work is expected to commence at the end of the year, with public consultation to take place at the earliest opportunity.

Plans show a lot of work near the hotel and pubs beside the pond at the Quay as far as the entrance of Westport House—where a right turn into the house will be made.

New footpaths, pedestrian crossings, designated car parking spaces, and the widening of the carriageway are envisaged.

Town manager Martin Keating said there will soon be a public meeting at the Quay and views expressed will be considered before the plan will go on public display.
