Mother did not have her child restrained in car

A 22-year-old woman who did not have her young child restrained while she was in her car was before Ballina District Court this week.

Garda Martin McNicholas stopped Helena Collins, 49 St Patrick’s Estate, Ballina, on September 8 2012 at Carrowcushlawn West.

In the back seat of the car her daughter did not have a seat belt on nor was there a child’s seat installed. The child’s seat was in fact in the boot of the car.

A fine was issued but was not paid.

The court heard that Collins’ husband had the car the night before and took the child’s seat out.

Judge Mary Devins directed that Collins contribute €500 to the Special Olympics and adjourned the case for payment for March 26.
