Balla mini companies pitch their business ideas to BNI members

Five Balla secondary school transition year mini companies were scrutinised and given valuable business advice by the members of St Colman’s BNI chapter at their meeting in the school this week.

The St Colman’s chapter education co-ordinator David Keane of Watch Tower Designs also gave the meeting, which was attended by the transition year students, an interesting and informative presentation on how to be successful in business. Even the experienced business people in attendance were taking notes.

Priva-See, whose company members are Shane Gaughan, Cain Corcoran, Dan Timlin, Cillin Prendergast, Ray Conway, and Niall Gilligan have developed a pair of glasses which enable PC and laptop users to work on their appliances privately while using public transport.

Meadbh Larkin, Amy Coleman, Alannah Munroe, Shauna Morrison, Shona Ruane, Tara Gibbons, and Cathy Lyons are the students behind the TY Hoodies company which saw them design a special hoodie for their classmates. The retail cost of the hoodie is €25.

Balla Parish Calendars, which are for sale at €3 and for 100 per cent profit, was the brain child of Declan Giblin, Eoin O’Neill, Ciaran Kilkenny, and Jason Bennett and have netted a tidy profit for the guys.

Selz, the company selling re-usable lids for drink cans which prevent spillage and the drinks going flat, has been successful for Liam Flatley, Stephen Martin, Ethan Munroe, and Zachary Coyne.

And the students behind Eat Me, the cupcake and cookie company, who are taking orders through their Facebook page and from families and friends for every type of event, are Eilís Hardesty, Annelise Gannon, Rachel Hetherington, Ruby McDonnell, and Sinéad Foy.

A representative of each mini company gave a short pitch during the BNI meeting in a very polished and businesslike manner and they were wished well in their future business endeavours.
