New music night in Castlebar
A new type of music night called Origins is about to hit Castlebar. It looks to offer both live music and DJs, with a strong emphasis on live performance, high quality audio and visuals. This music night echoes the next generation of music lover. Origins prides itself on offering an eclectic mix of music, from house to disco, rock to reggae, pop to techno, and everything in between. There is an air of anticipation around the town, with this new music night at the heart of it. The next Origins event is taking place tomorrow, March 2 in The Celtic Clubhouse at 9pm, with a great night of music being promised in the Castlebar area. St Gerald’s College variety concert
St Gerald’s College proudly presents its third annual spring concert at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Monday, March 11 at 8pm. The music department is a busy spot in St Gerald’s College with students involved in much music making both in the school and locality. Highlights of the concert will include: The school choir who participated in the Sligo Choral Festival, the Grúpa Ceoil who played at the Trad for Trócaire gig in the school, solo singers and instrumentalists who have competed in All Ireland School’s Talent Search, and various ensembles. A variety of genres will feature from rock to pop, classical to traditional. All are welcome to see and hear for themselves just how talented these young boys are. Opening on the same day, St Gerald’s presents an exhibition by students of its vibrant art department. A variety of paintings and prints from students of all years will be on display on the night, and the exhibition continues until Saturday March 16.
Upstart applications are now open
Mayo County Council’s Arts Office is now inviting project proposals for Upstart 2013. The newly named programme of arts activities in celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities which takes place annually on December 3. In 2012, events took place in Belmullet, Ballinrobe, Castlebar, and Westport. The arts office is now inviting proposals for projects/events that will take place in 2013. Proposals can come from: Venues that participated in Mayo County Council’s Disability Arts Programme. Artists who participated in Disability Equality Training. Professional disabled artists. Groups of disabled people interested in working with a particular professional artist and/or venue to develop a project. Proposals will be assessed with the assistance of external expertise, (both in terms of disability and the arts ) and funding awarded accordingly. Proposals should be submitted no later than Friday March 22.
