March’s Mayo Open Coffee Club (MOCC ) meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 6, in the Innovation in Business Centre (IiBC ) at GMIT Castlebar at 9.30am and this month Tom Murphy, managing director of Pamex (www.pamex.ie ), will be speaking about exporting and winning business overseas.
Mr Murphy has over 30 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry. In October 1995, he, along with his wife Mary formed Pamex Limited, a company specialising in the marketing and promotion of pharmaceutical and personal care products. After prolonged and tough negotiations, Pamex was appointed Irish agents for Chauvin Pharmaceuticals, which at that time was the largest privately owned pharmaceutical company in Europe, famous for the Minims range of eye products. Over the years, Pamex grew the Chauvin business in Ireland from annual sales of €125,000 in 1996 to €1.5 million.
Prior to founding Pamex Limited, Mr Murphy held senior positions in marketing, sales and management in ethical, OTC and general healthcare sectors, encompassing both national and international markets. He is a founding member of the Pharmaceutical Managers' Institute of Ireland, a former national president and a board member for over 15 years. His sphere of influence is extensive and he is highly regarded throughout all sectors of the Irish pharmaceutical industry.
While acknowledging that the current business environment is challenging for so many in the present climate, Mr Murphy believes that we simply have to stick with it and remain positive. “The world doesn’t stop because times are tough, so we have to work hard at being positive and face the future with optimism,” he maintains.
Export markets are always an attractive option for many small businesses, but you must get it right, he explains. “There are certain advantages in having a ‘fail fast’ approach, rather than throwing good money after bad, by trying to enter an export market without sufficient preparation and end up losing everything.”
MOCC is a business network run by business people for business people. The event is free of charge. All meetings start at 9.30am and last between one hour and 90 minutes.
All you have to do is turn up on the day. More details on the Mayo Open Coffee Club are available on http://mayo-open-coffee-club.org/
