Man told gardaí to ‘f**k off’

A man who was abusive to gardaí when they were called to a disturbance in a residential area was before Castlebar District Court this week.

Garda Michael Kelly responded to a call about a disturbance and alleged criminal damage at 5 Castlegrove, Castlebar, on December 27 2012 at 1.55am. Gardaí arrived at the scene and observed Owen McDonagh, 27 Castlegrove, Castlebar, outside the house. He was roaring and shouting and his hand was bloodied.

On seeing the gardaí McDonagh, who was intoxicated, came towards them and asked them what they were doing there. He then told them to “fuck off”. When he was asked to calm down he became aggressive.

McDonagh, who has previous convictions, is currently before the circuit court.

His solicitor Gary Mulchrone said that a probation report recently prepared indicated that McDonagh is on a detox at the moment and “is making great strides.”

Judge Mary Devins remanded him on continuing bail to May 15 for sentencing.
